Services
Grace Place relieves poverty and hunger by providing meals, clothing and emergency shelter. Each week Grace Place serves over 1000 meals. Each year we serve over 50,000 meals. Since the opening of Grace Place in 2008 we have served over 600,000 meals in total! Grace Place continues to meet the everyday needs of a very vulnerable and marginalized population in the city of Thunder Bay.
- A community hub, with the help of a volunteer base of 70-80 people, in one of the poorest areas of Thunder Bay at 235 Simpson Street.
- A home-style, safe environment, a place of shelter and refuge, and washroom facilities for the homeless population in the area. Drop-in hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
- Free of charge meals - open to the community to feed the hungry and poor through donated food. A community meal is served Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
- Offer free haircuts. Learn about our hair salon.
- Free clothing to those in need through donated items. Learn about our Free Store.
- Space for community services during Grace Place closing hours such as Nor-West Community Health Centre and other community service programs to meet with the most vulnerable in need.
- Emergency, overnight shelter for up to 25 individuals who cannot access any other shelter option in the City of Thunder Bay during the coldest months of the year. The Out of the Cold program runs from October to April annually.
- Support to those in need during times of tragedy, incarceration, or hospitalization.
- Weekly access to medical services through the Street Nursing program operated by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. Learn about street nursing.
We Provide:
- Help individuals to navigate from homelessness to independent living.
- Educate individuals, working collectively with other organizations, of the dangers of HIV, hepatitis, drug use, addiction, and other social problems & difficulties.
- Provide housing and much needed support through its Transition to Independent Living Program at Grace Place.
